The Soup Show: a shout out

As we get closer and closer to opening The Soup Show I get more and more nervous. I am so excited to be collaborating with Desiree Burch and Cara Francis and our director, Lauren Sharpe. And also all the other people involved that I just needed right now to give a shout out: Meg Bashwiner and Maiken Wiese, our dramaturgs, and also Meg is our stage manager. Lauren Parish is our Technical Driector and Lighting/Set Designer. Joey Rizzolo is Producing and designing all kinds of things from postcards to web banners. And the entire ensemble of The New York Neo-Futurists and our Board of directors are all pulling together to not only give great feedback but also to promote the hell out of the show. Speaking of promoting, Antonio MiniƱo has come on board with the Neos as our publicist and he's amazing, so smart and excited. Adam Smith has made a super great vlog that you can see here and there are two more to come before the show opens, made by Jacquelyn Landgraf and Danny Burnam (who has no way for me to link anything on the internet to his name which is neat and funny.) We have an awesome intern, Matt Wilson, who has been helping with structure. I feel so blessed to have all these people around helping to build this piece. This piece of work for/about women. And men. And transgenders. And through this process I feel myself changing, not only as an artist but as a woman. And I'm running into things through the work that I may have never found that are so inspiring and wonderful. Here's a brief list:

~I stopped wearing makeup and nail polish in December partly inspired by this movie.

~I discovered Malvina Reynolds in a way I never would without a small push from Adam Smith and now this song is my anthem.

~I have fallen head over heels in love with Fever Ray and so has Ariel, my daughter, (I think the girl in the video looks a lot like Ariel) due to a blog post on Bust.

~ I learned I am a cissexual.

~I know now what my favorite Olympic sport is...synchronized swimming.

So that's just five but the list could go on but I'd hate to spoil any of the show for you.

I'm really proud of this work and these changes. I hope you can see the show for yourself. Here's where to buy tickets.

Love,
Erica

The Soup, Genocide, JC Pennys and also Dear Ol' Dad.

Well, I feel that today is a great day to blog as there are so many things to say.

First off, my Dad is in town and it's great. This is his first trip to NYC and he's loving it. Hopefully, he'll get addicted and come up every year.

Second, I have lots of fun artistic news.

ART NEWS!

~The full length piece that Desiree Burch, Cara Francis and I proposed to be the Spring NY Neo Primetime show was accepted last night. It's tentatively title The Soup Show and will run this coming March.
~I was cast today in a reading of Paul Cohen's play Untitled Genocide Comedy and couldn't be more excited. Paul is one of the few people on my short list of "playwrights that I will be in anything they write." That will be at Manhattan Theater Source on December 8th.
~The JC Penny's commercial I shot last month is online now. It was such a fun shoot and I really like how the whole thing turned out. Everyone was so great. Here it is:
